Moon Pool

Lone Goat Gallery, Byron Bay

Moon Pool emerges from a longing to reach the places where life, loss, and renewal sit in quiet communion. Walking between worlds, this body of work drifts through cycles of reflection, transformation, and return, tracing the thresholds between what is visible and what is felt, where every potential gathers and unfolds.

In this installation, the artist explores the body as a meeting place between the human and non-human world, examining the tension that arises from being bound within a physical form. Photography, sculpture, and film become ritualised gestures of connection, blending figure, wearable sculpture, and landscape into forms that receive and reflect. The wearable sculptures function as a type of ceremonial vesture, designed to attune the senses and heighten awareness. Drawing on the time-honoured human tradition of ritual, Moon Pool becomes a site for resonance – inviting viewers to slow down, feel, and listen for the subtle movements that pulse beneath the surface of things.

Grounded in elements present in the forest, rocks, and waters of Moorang-Moobar Country, Moon Pool offers a meditation on how we might look to the world anew, alive to the subtle frequencies and unfolding potential around us.

Conceived as an ongoing iterative exhibition, True North showcases the dynamic and diverse practices of artists living and working in the Northern Rivers.

In True North: From the Forest Floor, guest Curator Christine Willcocks draws on her deep connection to the region’s rich biodiversity, selecting artists who respond intrinsically to the landscapes around them. Subtropical rainforests, Big Scrub, and coastal littoral forest provide a common thread for artists working across painting, installation, sculpture, film, sound, and performance.

True North recognises the importance of the Northern Rivers creative communities, and its significance as home to 112,000 arts and cultural creators (36% of population) and 2,109 creative businesses*. *(ABS Census, 2021)
